Instagram’s development team appears to be working on a new feature that will allow users to login to multiple accounts using a single ID.

Although Instagram already makes it easy for users to switch between accounts, the new “Main Account” feature will provide an even easier and faster access to other accounts they may have.

Once the new feature rolls out, you’ll be able to set up a main account and use that to access all your other accounts without having to enter passwords or other credentials.

For example, once enabled, you can designate your personal account as the Main Account. And then you can link your other Instagram accounts to that account.

Now when you sign into the main account, you’ll also get access to your other accounts automatically. So you’ll just have to remember a single email address (or username) and password.

The new feature makes switching and managing multiple accounts easier and faster. However, it may pose security risks. If someone gets a hold of your main account’s password, they’ll be able to access your other accounts as well.

Social media researcher Ishan Agarwal spotted the code for “Account Linking” in the app’s alpha version APK files. The code states:

“Quickly and securely log in to all of your Instagram accounts with one ID and password … Make one of your accounts your main account and use it to log in to all of your other accounts at once … Your accounts will remain separate but logging in will be fast and simple … Anyone who has the password for your main account will have access to the accounts connected to it.”

According to TechCrunch, the new account linking feature could become the next Facebook Login by allowing users to create accounts on other sites and apps using a single Instagram account.
